WETDOG

WETDOG (Water Education Training Dog Obedience Group) was started in 1992 by a group of people in Texas who wanted to make the Newfoundland Water test available to any breed no mater the size.

The WETDOG group offers four levels of titling SWET (Started Water Education Tested), WETT (Water Education Training Tested), WETX (Water Education Training Excellent) and WETXX.

The SWET title is earned by completing the basic obedience and two of the exercises for the WETT title.

To achieve the WETT title your dog must be able to: retrieve a bumper thrown into the water, fetch an object (usually a life vest) which was dropped from a boat, save a drowning victim by taking a life vest to the drowning person, swim with the handler, and complete a basic obedience handling test.

To achieve the WETX title your dog must have earned the WETT title and be able to distinguish a drowning victim from an ordinary swimmer and take the life saving device to the drowning victim, retrieve an object dropped from a boat (usually the oar) and return the object to the handler on the boat and then return to shore to wait for the handler to return, retrieve multiple objects placed in the water, tow a boat from a distance of 50 feet back to the shore, and retrieve a submerged object that is dropped in water belly deep to the dog.

The WETXX title is earned when the dog has achieved the WETX title and the handler becomes CPR certified. The team is then considered a complete life saving team.
